* I started my workday by rescuing a small rat from the sticky trap in the kitchen. (I hate sticky traps--they're cruel. Either kill the critter outright or capture it in a cage, don't glue it to the floor and leave it terrified and helpless for hours on end.) The squeaking sounded so pitiful! Marselle was scared of it, too, so I took it way out into the park behind our property, gently pinned its little head to the ground with a forked stick so it couldn't bite me, and pried its little (swollen and apparently numb) paws out of the goo. It lurched away as soon as it was free ("Come back, you're still sticky!"), so I guess it was okay, though one of its legs might have been broken. ;_; It hobbled off towards where three dens of foxes live, so I hope it's okay!
* Around three some idiot crashed into the subdivision sign across the street from work! And then just drove away! What the HELL?!
* Both my properly colored vinyl and one of Michael's birthday presents came in the mail today. Michael's present isn't too surprising, as I ordered that sucker last week. But I only completed my vinyl order on Tuesday! Apparently those New York fabric houses don't mess around.
* I finally bought Kushiel's Mercy. Oh Imriel, what kind of hot hot epicness will you get up to in this book?
* My cousins from Texas are going to be here in about 30 minutes. I haven't seen them in 10 years, and today is the younger one's 14th birthday, so this ought to be interesting.
* Tomorrow we're going to Mimi's (my aunt's). Apparently she's invited 26 people to her little Independence Day shindig and spent today cooking like mad. She's crazy. Did I mention that she's 68 and her husband's 73? Yeah, CRAAAAAAZY.
